Material Selection in UAV Design

PURA UAV Team | Publication Date: May 2025

One of the most critical steps in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) design is selecting the right materials and electronic components. As a team, our goal was to create a system that is lightweight, durable, and efficient. We carefully evaluated all mechanical and electronic parts according to mission requirements.

Motor Selection Criteria

When selecting motors, we considered load capacity and efficiency, examining products from reliable brands with appropriate KV values. For components like ESCs, propellers, and batteries, we evaluated weight, power consumption, and compatibility with the overall system.

Electronic Component Selection

For the electronic components, we focused primarily on the flight control board, sensors, and power distribution systems. We selected a flight controller model with excellent stability and software support.

Power Management

Power management was crucial for the healthy operation of the entire system. We carefully selected components such as:

In all our electronic selections, we considered not only technical specifications but also budget compatibility, durability, and ease of procurement.

Material Balance Considerations

When selecting materials, we had to balance several competing factors:

  1. Weight reduction
  2. Structural integrity
  3. Cost efficiency
  4. Availability of materials

As a result, with the resources available to us, we managed to create a UAV system that is balanced in both mechanical and electronic aspects, reliable, and mission-focused.
